Monthly Newsletter Available Electronically
The monthly Gerry 5 newsletter is distributed via electronic mail (e-mail). The monthly newsletter will be distributed by e-mail to all members having a valid e-mail account. We also post both an web version and a print version here on the web site on the Members Page.
For those few members without e-mail access, a short run of print copies will continue to be distributed until the need no longer exists. The newsletter will also be available here on the web site. Friday, May 31, 2013 - Redd's Pond Hand Tub Tryout - 6 p.m.
This is the day when we haul the Okommakamesit and the Gerry down to Redd's Pond to see if the machines are ready for the muster season. Anyone can pump! This is not a competition, but it's a great way to see how these beautiful old machines work.
The Oko is the Okommakamesit #2, built in 1861 by the Button Fire Engine Company in Waterford, New York. It first did service as the Good Will at Camp Curtin in Pennsylvania during the Civil War, pumping drinking and cooking water for the troops. It next went to ...Marlborough, Massachusetts where it got its current name, a Native American term for that area. It was purchased by the Phoenix Veteran Firemen's Association here in Marblehead in April 1895.
The Gerry was built for the Town of Marblehead in 1845 by the Hunneman Company in Boston. It was active in the Fire Department until 1890. In 1949 the machine was restored, and it started attending firemen's musters in 1950.
These fire engines are active in the New England States Veteran Firemen's League, an organization that oversees hand engine musters. These are competitions to see which crew can throw the longest stream of water.

The Phoenix School in Salem is holding a Casino Night at the Gerry 5 Function Hall on Saturday, June 1, 2013 starting at 6:30 p.m. They are inviting Gerry members to attend at a discounted ticket price of $30.00 each.
The ticket includes food, entry into grand prize
drawing, and $20 in gaming chips. Cash bar. Games include: black jack, craps, left-right-center, lucky wheel, and more. Prizes include: golf outings, weekend getaways, and spa treaments.

Fee includes Golf & Cart, Steak & Shrimp Dinner, and Prizes for all entrants
If you would like to enjoy a day of golf with friends and contribute to our many scholarships, please come and play in this year's tournament. Entry forms are available at the Club or by clicking here. Mail or bring the form to the Gerry along with a check for $500.00. Please make checks payable to Steve Shepard (NOT the Gerry 5).

NSMC Cancer Walk, June 23rd
Join the Gerry 5 Team!Join your friends and family on the Gerry 5 NSMC Cancer Walk Team as we raise money for a great cause while having a good time! On Sunday morning, June 23, 2013, thousands of participants will join together with family members, colleagues and friends for the 23rd annual North Shore Cancer WALK. As a walker, volunteer or donor, you can be part of an inspirational day in the fight against cancer
We are officially forming a Gerry 5 team for this event.
